Kevin Jonas had a basal cell carcinoma removed; here's how the skin cancer is treated, and how to spot it

Kevin Jonas, of the Jonas Brothers, revealed that he was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma and underwent surgery to have it removed. BCC appears as changes in the skin and can be treated with surgery. Prevention tips include staying out of the midday sun, wearing sunscreen all year, avoiding tanning beds and regularly checking one's skin for new growths.

Dirt bike rider shot by police officer in North Philadelphia, authorities say

A man riding a dirt bike in North Philadelphia was shot by a police officer on Saturday, authorities say. Officers with Philadelphia Police Department's ATV enforcement were following a dirt bike rider in the Fairhill neighborhood. One of the officers approached the rider after he stopped to tell him what he was doing was illegal, when the rider allegedly showed he had a gun. A second officer discharged his weapon and hit the rider twice. The rider is in critical condition in the hospital.

Retired Eagles center Jason Kelce and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce have signed on as the largest investors in the Ohio-based independent light beer brand Garage Beer, which is sold in Philly and is coming to New Jersey this month. This marks the first time that the brothers will team up to be significant owners and operators of a business together.

Franklin Institute lets adults explore exhibits after hours in 2nd Thursdays summer event series

The Franklin Institute is launching a new 2nd Thursdays summer event series on Thursday, June 13, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The 18-and-older, after-hours events will feature access to the exhibits, live science shows, food and drinks. Tickets start at $25. The other two 2nd Thursdays will be held on July 11 and Aug. 8.
