SEPTA bus rider attacked another passenger with a meat cleaver, police say

A SEPTA bus rider was attacked by another passenger with a meat cleaver early Thursday morning in Center City, police said. The altercation occurred on a Broad Street Line Night Owl bus at Broad and Callowhill streets shortly before 3 a.m. The man who was slashed with the meat cleaver suffered lacerations to his head and hands, investigators said.

Donald Trump's dance moves at unusual town hall in Montgomery County mocked by late night comedians

Former President Donald Trump turned a town hall in Oaks, Montgomery County on Monday into an impromptu dance party after two medical emergencies happened in the crowd. 'The Daily Show,' 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' and 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' poked fun at his dance moves and his use of 'Ave Maria.'

City Council proposes to rename Taney Street after Philly civil rights activist Caroline LeCount

Taney Street, which runs through sections of North and South Philly, will be renamed LeCourt Street after a Philly civil rights activist if the City Council passes a bill. A group called the Rename Taney Coalition has advocated for the change and engaged with residents over the past four years.

The family of Jessica Haley, the NJ Transit operator who died in Monday's River Line train crash, plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the state-owned transit corporation. The family's attorney, Kila Baldwin, of Anapol Weiss, claims NJ Transit and others failed to ensure the tracks were clear of trees.

Kevin Hart adds fourth 'Acting My Age' comedy show at The Met due to 'overwhelming demand'

Kevin Hart has added another Philadelphia show to the end of his 'Acting My Age' comedy tour. The comedian will be at The Met from Dec. 4-7. A presale for the Dec. 7 show begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16. The general sale begins at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18. The first three shows are sold out.

Beloved MLK mural in West Philly will be restored on the building that obstructs it

A mural depicting Martin Luther King Jr.'s 1965 Freedom Now speech on the 4000 block of Haverford Avenue was obscured by a new building next to it. But Mural Arts Philadelphia worked with the development company to re-create the celebrated artwork onto the new building. Work on the restoration will begin Monday, Oct. 14.

'UFO 50,' one of the best video games of the year, took 8 years to make – and a Philly-area developer had a hand in it

'UFO 50' is the fifth best-reviewed video game in 2024 by Metacritic. Developer Jon Perry, who lives in Ambler, was one of the creative forces behind 'UFO 50,' a compilation of 50 games. Perry worked on several of them, including the platformer 'Mini & Max' and the deck-building strategy game 'Party House.'

How South Jersey indie game developer Mike Strollart turned a hobby into a living

Game creator Mike Strollart of Hammonton is developing 'Below the Stone,' a video game about dwarves mining through caves, with team members from Jersey, Philly and New York. The independent developer made several hobby games with friends before launching Kickstarter funding campaigns for his first big project. He also recommends the video game 'Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor,' another game featuring dwarves.

Chestnut Hill adds scavenger hunt with 18 businesses to its annual Halloween festivities

Chestnut Hill will be hosting Halloween on the Hill from Saturday, Oct. 26 to Sunday, Oct. 31. This year, 18 businesses will be participating in a scavenger hunt through the historic village. There will also be some staples of the annual neighborhood event, including the Scarecrow Walk and pet parade.

Actress Jenna Fischer, who starred in 'The Office,' says she was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer last year but is 'cancer free' after receiving surgery and other treatments. The aggressive, but treatable, form of breast cancer occurs when breast cancer cells have atypically high levels of estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and HER2 proteins.
