Chestnut Hill adds scavenger hunt with 18 businesses to its annual Halloween festivities

Chestnut Hill will be hosting Halloween on the Hill from Saturday, Oct. 26 to Sunday, Oct. 31. This year, 18 businesses will be participating in a scavenger hunt through the historic village. There will also be some staples of the annual neighborhood event, including the Scarecrow Walk and pet parade.

Catholic school in Delco cancels classes after Monday night fire

The primary building of Saint Francis of Assisi of Assisi School in Delaware County caught fire on Monday afternoon. The cause of the blaze is unknown but no injuries were reported, and no one was in the building. The Catholic school canceled classes for Tuesday and is locating alternate spaces for affected students.

Philly company Crossroads Comedy Theater will have 10 Halloween shows from Oct. 22-26, ranging from improv showcases, variety shows and a murder mystery. All shows will be at The Louis Bluver Theatre at the Drake in Center City.

Hazardous materials found in Tacony home leads to evacuation and arrest

Fire crews and police responded to calls of a house fire in Tacony at the 7100 block of Montague Street Friday evening. Responders rescued a male and female resident. An investigation revealed that the home contained dangerous materials such as fireworks and incendiary devices, and police arrested and charged the male resident.

17-year-old in critical condition after SEPTA bus shooting in North Philly

A 17-year-old boy was shot inside a SEPTA bus in North Philly Friday night. The shooting took place near North 3rd Street and West Allegheny Avenue. The boy was taken to Temple University Hospital in 'extremely critical condition.' Police chased suspects who were in a silver-colored Kia, which crashed on 5th Street and Greenwood Avenue. One suspect is in custody while another fled the scene.

Robbers fatally shoot man inside West Philly corner store and then crash their getaway car into SEPTA bus

An armed robbery attempt led to a shootout that left a man dead inside a West Philly corner store at 40th and Brown streets Wednesday night. The robbers fled in a car that crashed into a SEPTA bus. One of them – a 17-year-old boy who was shot in the shootout – was apprehended. Police are looking for two others – a robber and the getaway driver.

Plans to turn SS United States into a reef off Florida coast move forward

The SS United States, the historic ocean liner that has been docked in South Philly since 1996, will be transported to Florida and turned into an artificial reef under a tentative deal approved Tuesday by Okaloosa County officials. The ship would be sunk off the shore of Destin-Fort Walton Beach, the home of hundreds of artificial reefs.

Temple suspends pro-Palestinian student group after protesters disrupted job fair

Temple University issued an interim suspension for the Students for Justice in Palestine group on Tuesday after pro-Palestine protesters disrupted a career fair on Thursday. Four protesters, including one Temple student, were detained. The student group accused police of assaulting protesters, while Temple Public Safety said bodycam and security footage show no evidence of those claims.
