Roman Reigns was suspended 30 days by WWE on Tuesday after he violated the company’s wellness policy. WWE released this statement regarding the suspension:
“WWE has suspended Joe Anoa`i (Roman Reigns) for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.”
Reigns sent out this Tweet shortly after the news was announced:
Reigns lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Seth Rollins at Sunday’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view before Dean Ambrose cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and pinned Rollins to win the title. On Raw Monday night, a Triple Threat Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was made for the main event of next month’s Battleground pay-per-view, featuring Ambrose defending his title against Rollins and Reigns.
As of now, that match is still slated to take place. Battleground occurs on July 24th and Reigns’ suspension will be over by that point.
But is it a good idea to keep him in the match with this added blow to an already shaky fan response? Probably not. It’ll be interesting to see how WWE books around this with Ambrose and Rollins having to carry the story for the next month.
Reigns signed with both the Vikings and the Jaguars of the NFL in 2007 before heading to Canada to play in the CFL for one season with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2008. He was then signed to a developmental deal with WWE and made his main roster debut with Ambrose and Rollins as a part of The Shield in 2012 at the Survivor Series. He’s held the WWE World Tag Team Championship and is a three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
