Parents looking to plan a wholesome fun weekend with their kids will soon have another option at the Plymouth Meeting Mall when a new LEGOLAND Discovery Center opens in 2017.
On Tuesday, it was all about breaking ground on the PREIT and Merlin Entertainments-led project. Officials gathered at the future site of the multifaceted facility watched as a dump truck poured 50,000 LEGO pieces onto a tarp.
“With the start of construction, families from across the Greater Philadelphia region are one step closer to experiencing the ultimate indoor LEGO playground,” said Michael Taylor, General Manager of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Philadelphia. “The Discovery Center captures the innate magic of LEGO and brings children’s imaginations to life through playful learning. We anticipate LEGOLAND Discovery Center to be among Philadelphia’s most popular attractions, and we are committed to making the experience hassle-free, including conveniently timed ticketing and annual passes, which are available starting today.”
Pennsylvania Attorney General candidate and Montgomery County Board of Commissioners chair Josh Shapiro was among those in attendance and shared several photos on Twitter.
Attractions at the new Discovery Center will include a Ninjago Training Camp, a MINILAND Philadelphia display, a 4D cinema and racing test tracks for vehicular models.
“Exciting concepts like LEGOLAND Discovery Center are pushing the boundaries that have historically defined the mall experience,” said Joe Coradino, CEO of PREIT, the owner and operator of Plymouth Meeting Mall. “As the social fabric of their communities, our malls are uniquely positioned to offer quality family attractions that augment the shopping experience and offer another reason to visit and enjoy the unique mix of shopping, dining and destination entertainment options."
Early Bird annual passes to LEGOLAND Discovery Center can be purchased here.
The Discovery Center will also hold a MINILAND Facebook contest where the public can vote on the Philadelphia landmarks they want to see featured in the exhibit.
