The Kimmel Center is home to the Philadelphia Orchestra, Philly Pops, Philadanco, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and other art groups.
For six weeks, visitors to the Kimmel Center can check out a virtual reality swing installation in the Commonwealth Plaza.
No ticket necessary; the experience is free, although a donation is encouraged.
"Swing @ the Kimmel" will be at the performing arts venue from Monday, Jan. 14, through Sunday, Feb. 24.
The virtual reality swings were designed by the "world's first thrill engineer," Dr. Brendan Walker. The experience combines art, aeronautical engineering and design. According to the Kimmel Center, it brings music to life in 3D and includes realistic landscapes.
"As we strive to present unique and innovative arts experiences that defy the traditional perception of art, we are thrilled to welcome Professor Walker's VR swings back to the Avenue of the Arts after first premiering during the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA) 2018 Street Fair," said Jay Wahl, producing artistic director of the Kimmel Center.
All "Swing @ the Kimmel" participants must be at least 10 years old, 50 inches or taller, and less than 280 pounds. Waivers will be provided on site.
The hours of operation are below.
•Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays open 5-9 p.m.
•Fridays open 5-10:30 p.m.
•Saturdays and Sundays open noon to 9 p.m.
