Three University of Pennsylvania graduates have made Forbes magazine’s 30 Under 30 Who are Moving the World list for 2015 in the education category, released earlier this week.
This fourth annual celebration of 30 Under 30s is the biggest yet, with 20 categories featuring 600 millennials. Among these are young people who have changed the way we learn, teach and understand education.
Stephanie Shyu, 26, and Lydia Fayal, 28, are cofounders of AdmitSee, a social media platform where verified undergraduate and graduate students can post profiles featuring their college application materials.
The goal of the site is to provide a resource to students applying to college. Fayal’s LinkedIn profile describes AdmitSee as a site with data that “empowers students make better decisions about where to apply and how to communicate their strengths.” Shyu and Fayal met at UPenn Law.
Jessica Gartner, 28, is the CEO and founder of Allovue, an education resource site that focuses on empowering K-12 educators to best allocate resources for their students. Allovue’s flagship application, Balance, is a tool to analyze school budgets, track expenses and identify trends.
Gartner is a UPenn and Johns Hopkins alum. She also participated in Teach for America.
Philadelphia will become the regular home for Forbes’ Under 30 Summit in October after its successful first year. The summit will take place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and other city venues from Oct. 4-7.
This year, the summit will introduce a full day of service on the last day of the conference, during which participants will speak at Philadelphia schools and visit local nonprofits.
