Fifth person charged in connection to fatal shooting of Cumberland County detective

Police arrested Bryon Thomas, 35, of Paulsboro, New Jersey, for his alleged connection to the murder of Cumberland County Detective Monica Mosley. He was formally charged Friday on murder, burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction of justice and other related charges. He is the fifth person to be arrested and charged in relation to the home invasion and slaying.

In New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District, Democrat Herb Conaway tops Republican Rajesh Mohan

Democrat Herb Conaway defeated Republican Rajesh Mohan to win New Jersey's Third Congressional District during the 2024 election. He'll succeed Andy Kim, who was elected to the U.S. Senate, and become South Jersey's first Black Congressman. Conaway, a physician, has served in the state's assembly since 1998.

100 people have been released from Philly jails due to staffing shortages since October

100 people awaiting trial have been released from Philadelphia jails since October due to staffing shortages, the Defender Association of Philadelphia said. The city's court system began holding emergency bail hearings on Oct. 1 to release people who are not a public safety risk. More hearings are expected in the coming weeks.

Woman launched 200 feet in fatal hit-and-run in Northeast Philly, police say

A woman in her 20s or 30s was struck and killed by a dark-colored SUV on Friday morning after 2 a.m. on the 4800 block of Levick Street. The victim, who police have not yet identified, flew 200 feet and was knocked out of her shoes, police said. According to statistics from the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, there have been 31 fatal hit-and-run incidents in Philly this year.
