Acolytes of the church of SoulCycle, rejoice: The elite indoor cycling club is coming to the Philadelphia area.
As Philadelphia Magazine reported, the hip spinning spot is opening a 3,400-square-foot studio this May in Ardmore's Suburban Square shopping center. The club will feature 58 bikes and a retail section, and the company is seriously considering a second location in Center City as well.
Founded in New York City in 2006, the 45-minute SoulCycle classes have been described as "interpretive bike dancing" and "part dance party, part therapy, part communal high." The most common descriptor is "cult" — leading to a memorable parody of the studio's obsessed fanbase on Netflix's "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."
The opening of a new studio may also put pressure on Flywheel, a competing spinning club with locations in Center City and Bryn Mawr. Headed by one of the original founders of SoulCycle, it bills itself as a more inclusive, less-hyped alternative to the trendy SoulCycle brand.
The cost for Ardmore classes was not revealed, but classes are $34 at the closest SoulCycle studio in Short Hills, New Jersey, according to its website.
