WILMINGTON, DE -- The Sixers held their annual Blue x White Scrimmage on Sunday afternoon at Chase Fieldhouse, home of their G League affiliate, the Blue Coats. The day is much more about entertaining fans than any sort of preparation for the season, but Sixers head coach Nick Nurse was able to provide one encouraging piece of news.
All-Star point guard Tyrese Maxey, who only logged five minutes of playing time after suffering a right thumb contusion in the Sixers' preseason finale on Friday night, did not suffer a meaningful injury.
Maxey -- who joined Joel Embiid in "coaching" a group of six players known as "Team Joel and Tyrese," which opposed "Team Paul George" -- is alright.
"He's okay," Nurse told reporters following the conclusion of the scrimmage. "He's fine. Just really precautionary. He got hit on his hand. Nothing there, he's feeling pretty good."
In addition, Nurse said that rookie guard Jared McCain has "progressed really well" since his scary fall on Wednesday night which caused a pulmonary contusion. McCain took part in the drills the Sixers performed in front of fans, but did not scrimmage.
The Sixers open their regular season on Wednesday night when they host the Milwaukee Bucks.
