Secret Service releases list of prohibited items for papal visit

Bikes, drones and selfie sticks are not permitted within the security perimeters

The Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

The Secret Service released Wednesday a list of items prohibited within the security perimeters established for the papal visit in late September, according to media reports.

The list includes bicycles, hard coolers, drones, packages, selfie sticks and glass, thermal or metal containers. Backpacks and signs are limited to certain restrictions.

The security perimeters surround the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Independence Mall, where Pope Francis will deliver a speech on immigration. He also will participate in the Festival of Families and serve a papal mass, both held on the Parkway.

Pilgrims must pass through metal detectors to get within the security perimeters, where the varied items are prohibited.

• Ammunition

• Animals other than service/guide animals

• Backpacks and bags exceeding the size restrictions (18"x13"x7")

• Balloons

• Bicycles

Hard Coolers (Soft-sided thermal coolers are allowed)

• Drones and other unmanned aircraft systems

• Explosives

• Firearms

• Glass, thermal or metal containers

• Laser pointers

• Mace/Pepper spray

• Packages

• Selfie Sticks

• Signs exceeding the size restrictions (5'x3'14') made of any material except cardboard, posterboard or cloth

• Structures

Supports for signs and placards

• Toy guns

• Weapons of any kind

• Any other items determined to be a potential safety hazard
