When Flyers defenseman Evgeny Medvedev was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence a couple of weeks ago in Montgomery County, there were many questions that arose from the initial report.
Now that official charges have been filed against Medvedev, there are now even more. From the Inquirer’s Laura McCrystal:
Flyers defenseman Evgeny Medvedev was charged last week with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
Medvedev, 33, is charged with having a blood alcohol content of more than .16 percent - more than double the legal limit for drivers - when he was stopped by Lower Moreland police last month, according to court documents.
Medvedev was initially stopped for a traffic violation on Byberry Road in Lower Moreland at 2:45 a.m. on April 27th.
On the ice, the 33-year-old Russian defenseman (who was an NHL rookie in 2015-16) had an up-and-down season, in that order. He initially impressed with his ability to drive possession, but late in the season, he fell out of favor with Dave Hakstol. Medvedev spent almost all of March and April out of the lineup, watching games in the press box.
Medvedev, who signed a one-year contract worth $3 million, will likely not be re-signed by the Orange and Black this offseason according to general manager Ron Hextall.
“We haven’t totally made those decisions yet, but I would say probably we’re leaning towards not,” Hextall said when asked about bringing Medvedev back.
A preliminary hearing has reportedly been set for June 15th.
