UPDATE [12:13 p.m.] — Eagles head coach Doug Pederson announced during his Monday afternoon press conference that quarterback Nick Foles, who left during the fourth quarter of their Week 17 win over Washington with bruised ribs, will start the Birds' wild card matchup against the Bears on Sunday.
FROM EARLIER...
During his post-game press conference after the Philadelphia Eagles' win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Nick Foles acknowledged that he was sore, but Monday morning tests would reveal the severity of his injury.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, after testing, Foles "only" sustain bruised ribs, and doesn't have any fractures. It is expected that Foles will play in Chicago in the Eagles' wildcard round playoff game next Sunday.
No. 3 quarterback Nate Sudfeld entered the Redskins game in relief of Foles, and threw a touchdown pass on one attempt. Meanwhile, starting quarterback Carson Wentz has been out for three weeks with a stress fracture in his back, but his availability remains a mystery. The team opted not to place him on injured reserve, which indicates that there's at least a chance he can return at some point.
If there's any doubt that both Foles and Wentz can't go on Sunday, the Eagles would have no choice but to sign a quarterback to back up Sudfeld. It does not appear that will be necessary.
