Join in potato chip tasting at Eastwick branch of Free Library of Philadelphia

Learn about potato chip inventor George Crum during Black History Month

The Eastwick branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia is celebrating Black History Month in February by sharing potato chip inventor George Crum's story.

The legend of Crum's snack invention starts with a customer complaint while he's working as a chef in New York. Someone disliked how thick and soft the potato slices were being served, so Crum cut the potatoes into slices as thin as possible, deep fried them to a crisp, added salt and served them.

While Crum expected outrage from the customer, the new snack was a hit instead.

If talking about potato chips makes you hungry, don't worry, guests can join in a potato chip tasting to vote on the best kind while learning about George Crum.
