A man confronted an alleged thief attempting to take off with car parts from his Cheltenham driveway and was violently assaulted as a result, according to police.
According to authorities, the victim was in his home located on the 2000 block of Mather Way in Lynnewood Gardens on Sunday night when he saw a man trying to steal a wheel off his car.
When he went outside to confront the man, the suspect allegedly beat the suspect over the head with a wrench and a brick before getting into a Chevy Cruze driven by a female accomplice and fleeing the scene.
Despite the attack, the victim was able to pull off a T-shirt covering the license plate to get the vehicle's registration information, police say.
Shortly after officers found the victim bloodied and beaten in his driveway around 11 p.m. Sunday, police used the information to identify a home in Ambler and set up surveillance around the residence.
Not long following the stakeout, 44-year-old Sergio Gullo of Ambler was taken into custody, according to authorities.
Gullo has been charged with aggravated assault, robbery, simple assault, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering another person and conspiracy.
The victim has been treated for his injuries and released.
