For the second time in 2016, Philadelphia will host a rally for a local team that won a championship.

The city is inviting the public to the City Hall Courtyard on Wednesday at noon for a rally honoring the Philadelphia Soul.

The event is scheduled to last for 45 minutes.

“The Soul has brought home a city championship and we are proud to recognize this day,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “I declare Wednesday, August 31, 2016, ‘Philadelphia Soul World Champions Day’ in Philadelphia and hope everybody comes out to celebrate the Soul for making our city proud.”

Last Friday, the Soul knocked off the Arizona Rattlers, 56-42, in ArenaBowl XXIX to secure their second title.

The Soul, which joined the Arena Football League in 2004, also won the league championship in 2008.

The team's ownership group, coaches, players and dance team will attend the rally.

In April, thousands gathered in Dilworth Park to celebrate Villanova's NCAA Basketball Championship.
