A Pennsylvania lawmaker wants to pass legislation that would require wedding photographers to become licensed, a move he says will prevent brides and grooms getting ripped off on their big day.
State Rep. Jamie Santora, R-Delaware, said in a memo Tuesday that under his future bill, wedding photographers in the state would have to get certification through the Professional Photographers of America.

"The PPA sets standards and requirements for wedding photographers to protect brides from the horror stories of their wedding day photo shoot," Santora wrote.
The PPA is a non-profit association with more than 30,000 members that aims to set industry standards for its certified photographers, according to the group's website.
A certification with the PPA, according to the group, "represents a declaration of a particular individual's professional competence."
Santora said his legislation would help prevent couples from running into unforeseen circumstances on the big day, such as digital image loss, missing photos and photographers not showing up or going out of business before the wedding and not providing reimbursement.
