Pedestrian fatally struck during multi-car crash on I-676

The highway was shut down between Broad Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway exits from 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Drivers can residual delays after a multi-vehicle crash shut down Interstate 676 from Broad Street to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for several hours on Wednesday morning.

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 676 on Wednesday morning prompted the closure of its westbound lanes and delayed traffic for several hours.

A pedestrian waling along the highway way killed in the crash, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. I-676 was closed from Broad Street to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at 4:30 a.m. after a crash involving several cars. The road reopened around 6:30 a.m. but Philadelphia's Office of Emergency Management said drivers should plan for residual delays.

Pennsylvania State Police did not immediately respond to a request for additional information, including how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone was injured. Multiple emergency vehicles were at the scene diverting cars to Broad Street. 

Delays were particularly bad for drivers exiting Interstate 95 onto I-676, although eastbound lanes remained open.
