A luxury home in Villanova, Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia recently had its greatest season for million-dollar homes ever, with 34 homes being sold for a million dollars or more in just a three-month period.

But the houses on the market below make a million dollars seem like chump change. Each one excels in excess, making them modern-day palaces. If a man's home is his castle, then these are the ultimate homes.

1. A lakeside mansion in Gladwyne, $2,995,000

Built around 1927, "Glenlaurel" is an impressive English manor designed by the prominent architect Walter Durham. You can see his designs in literally hundreds of beautiful buildings along the Main Line, but this lakeside mansion is among the prettiest. One detail that particularly stands out is the gorgeous spiral staircase inside the crescendos up to a stained glass ceiling.

2. Throw some amazing barn parties in Villanova, $19,750,000

Chill, okay? It's just a $19 million estate. Okay, $19.75 million. Whatever. It's only eight bedrooms and 750 acres. It has some cool features, I guess, like a real working clock tower, twin guest houses and a "party barn." But come on, who doesn't have a party barn nowadays?

3. Red-roofed luxury in Villanova, $4,175,000

The red roof and conical tower of this stone mansion makes it look like it could fit in well as a French chateau. Detail inside include a two-story reception hall, a flagstone terrace and wine cellar with a tasting room.
