On Tuesday, March 15, WHYY is opening up a discussion on the second season of Sarah Koenig's "Serial" podcast.
The focus is on Bowe Bergdahl, a U.S. soldier, prisoner of war and topic of controversy. Bergdahl was held by the Taliban for five years before he was rescued by a U.S. Special Operations team in 2014. Some soldiers from his unit, however, say that he deserted.
Currently, Bergdahl is charged with two crimes, and "Serial" has been digging into the story.
During the WHYY event, attendees will have a chance to share their own theories on the case after hearing from a panel of experts.
NPR's David Aquila ("Quil") Lawrence will moderate the discussion, asking panel members about Bergdahl’s capture, the status of his case, military law and the experience of captivity.
The panel includes Josh Fattal, a former Iran hostage; Malcolm Nance, a veteran U.S. intelligence officer; Rachel Van Landingham, a military law expert and law professor at Southwestern Law School; and Chris Lombardi, author of "I Ain’t Marching Anymore."
Event tickets are $10 for WHYY members and $15 for the general public. Each ticket allows guests a complimentary Magic Hat beer tasting at the discussion, as well.
