In honor of a friend and former employee who was fatally shot in Philadelphia late last year, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant will release a special beer Thursday to benefit the foundation established in his honor.
Terrell Bruce allegedly was killed by a passenger inside his car along West Walnut Lane in Northwest Philadelphia on Dec. 27. Police later arrested Martina Westcott, 27, who claimed in a confession she shot him after the two had gotten into an argument in the vehicle
Before his death, Bruce worked at four Iron Hill locations and created a beer recipe.
“This beer is a tribute to his memory and his foundation will continue the good work that he did throughout his life.” – Mark Edelson
Today, that LeBruce Saison will be released at four Iron Hill locations – Ardmore, Chestnut Hill, Maple Shade (N.J.) and North Wales – with $1 from every sale donated to the Terrell L. Bruce Memorial Foundation, which was started by his brother Brandon.
“LeBruce is a big saison brewed with apricot for juicy stone fruit flavor and earthy spice tones,” according to Iron Hill. “It was crafted from a recipe that Terrell created, along with the brew team, a few years ago, and Iron Hill is proud to serve it to honor his consistently stellar commitment to the company and his colleagues.”
Mark Edelson, director of brewing operations for Iron Hill, said the beer “is a tribute to his memory and his foundation will continue the good work that he did throughout his life.”
Iron Hill also will donate 20 percent of food sales for every table that presents a partner coupon from the foundation.
“We were heartbroken by the untimely passing of our beloved server Terrell, whose devotion to his community was recognized by everyone he met,” he said.
Bruce worked at all four locations where the beer is being released, and his brother Brandon will visit each Thursday afternoon and night, starting at 4 p.m. in Maple Shade and ending in Ardmore after 9 p.m.
The foundation is a “non-profit that provides scholarship opportunities to students from economically, socially or culturally disadvantaged backgrounds who demonstrate a longstanding commitment to community service and academic excellence.”
