The final phase of a Mt. Airy restoration project is slated to begin this fall thanks to a $15,000 matching grant provided by the Philadelphia Activities fund, Newsworks reported.
Construction on the Stotesbury Gates, a historic gateway along Lincoln Drive built in 1901, is expected to be complete by the end of the year. The project will restore pergolas to the gates, which deteriorated after years of neglect.
J. Patrick Moran, of the Germantown Historic Society, and West Mt. Airy Neighbors launched the restoration project five years ago. Alongside Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, they raised a team of volunteers and funding to rebuild the Stotesbury Gates.
