The funeral for New Jersey state trooper Anthony Raspa will be held Thursday at Saint Mathias Church, 168 Kennedy Boulevard in Somerset, at 11 a.m.
The Raspa family has requested that the service remain private, according to the New Jersey State Police website.
Anthony Raspa, 24, was killed after his police car struck a deer traveling eastbound on I-195 shortly after midnight on May 30. Trooper Gene Hong, 29, who was also in the vehicle, was treated for lacerations and a neck injury from the accident.
CBS Philly reports that flags flew at half-staff at the department's Hamilton Station on Monday to honor the fallen trooper. Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, mourned the loss of Raspa in a statement announcing the funeral plans.
"Anthony Raspa was an outstanding trooper and role model. He was highly regarded by his peers and supervisors alike and had limitless potential in his chosen profession. We are devastated by his passing. His family will always remain a part of our State Police family."
