Either your league has a late in the game draft or you're starting to plan your Week 1 lineup.
Regardless of which, it's never pleasing to see that red cross next to a player you're contemplating taking. Should you skip him? Draft him later?
As we do from time to time, here's a quick look at the latest injury news for 10 of the most important fantasy football stars currently recovering from a setback:
Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers
The biggest question mark by far is the otherwise consensus No. 1 pick — who is nursing a calf injury. The Niners are optimistic that McCaffrey will suit up, and it sounds like a minor injury. However, you never know with soft tissue injuries. It's possible he gets fewer snaps, or is not 100% or it nags him all year. Either way, he's still worth a top pick, maybe the first overall.
Tyreek Hill, WR, Dolphins
Another first round fantasy pick has an injury designation — but it shouldn't be much of an issue. Hill is sitting out practice out of precaution with a minor thumb injury and should lace them up next weekend.
Puka Nacua, WR, Rams
Nacua has what was called a "bursa sac issue" in his knee and has not been practicing in full for Los Angeles recently. The Rams are saying that he will be good to go when the season starts. He will, at some point for sure. We'll have to find out if that is indeed during Week 1.
Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Lions
A hamstring injury had Gibbs out of practice for nearly three weeks, but he's back on the field with Detroit and it's expected he will be full go in Week 1.
Sam LaPorta, TE, Lions
Another Lions' skill guy looks like he's nipped his hamstring injury as well as LaPorta is expected to be ready to go when the season kicks off.
Jaylen Waddle WR, Dolphins
A yet undisclosed injury has kept Waddle out of practice in Miami. We'll find out more when injury specifics are required to be disclosed midweek this week.
Mark Andrews, TE, Ravens
One of the top tight ends in the game, Andrews sat out a bunch of practices after he was in a car accident, but he did not sustain any injuries, and was back on the field this past weekend.
Keenan Allen, WR, Bears
The newly acquired Bears veteran missed practice last week with a foot injury. He is expected to be back practicing this week.
Christian Kirk, WR, Jaguars
Kirk missed practices last week with a calf injury but then returned — he looks like he is on pace for a Week 1 appearance.
Jaylen Warren, RB, Steelers
Warren's hamstring injury has sent fantasy drafters leaning toward Najee Harris, but it sounds like he's on pace to return for the season opener.
