Drexel University has taken another step to address mental wellness with the installation of a new mental health kiosk in its recreation center, Drexel News Blog reports.
Students, staff and visitors can now use the MindKare machine to perform quick, anonymous self-assessments to determine their risk for mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, alcohol, eating disorders and more.
Taking care of mental wellness is vitally important for college students, many of whom experience anxiety and depression. As The New York Times reported last week, nearly one in six college students has been diagnosed with or treated for anxiety within the past year.
The university already offers an online version at DrexelMindKare.org. Another wellness initiative is Drexel's on-site therapy dog, Jersey, who works in the recreation center.
In addition, a kiosk will be installed at the College of Nursing and Health Professions’ Stephen and Sandra Sheller 11th Street Family Health Services Center in North Philadelphia.
Drexel is the first university to make use of such mental health technology.
