For two weeks in May, dance company MOMIX will perform at the Prince Theater. Their show "Opus Cactus" will conclude the NextMove Dance’s inaugural season at the performance venue.
Artistic director Moses Pendleton, whose list of accomplishments includes choreographing the Opening Ceremonies at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, created a show that takes the audience on a visual journey of the American Southwest.

The trope performing consists of 10 dancers; two have Philly connections. Jerrica Blankenship studied dance at The University of the Arts (UArts) and Philly native Jenna Marie Grave attended Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA). While Pendleton focuses on an area far from Philly for his show, he also has a local connection. He received an honorary doctorate from UArts.
Low-flying trapeze, vaulting poles, puppets, harnesses and other mechanisms will be used to create a multimedia show, set to a music score ranging from Bach to tribal, to new age, to contemporary.
The dessert landscape, including Gila monsters and cacti, will come to life on stage through the dancers.
Tickets for the show, which opens May 11, start at $20. The company will offer four post-performance chats for ticket holders immediately after Thursday and Saturday shows.
