When driving over the Ben Franklin Bridge from Philly to South Jersey, on the right you can see pretty little Campbell’s Field on the waterfront. The ballpark was the home of the independent Camden Riversharks, but apparently not anymore.
In business together since 2001, the Riversharks announced Wednesday that they will “cease operations immediately” after being unable to reach a lease agreement on the stadium. From the team’s website:
The Camden Riversharks announced today that the club will cease operations immediately due to the inability to reach an agreement on lease terms with the ballpark's owner, the Camden County Improvement Authority ("CCIA").
…
We would like to thank our partners and fans for supporting the club for 15 memorable seasons. We did everything we could to keep affordable, family entertainment alive and well in Camden.
The Inquirer has previously reported that Camden County officials are trying to replace the Riversharks with a major-league-affiliated team. The Riversharks announced a merchandise sale that will run from Thursday to Saturday.
Are any Pedro Feliz or Wilson Valdez throwbacks still in stock?
