Camden police save 200th overdose victim using Narcan

The Camden County Police Department reached a milestone this week after an officer administered a life-saving drug to an overdose victim this week, county officials announced.

The save was No. 200 since the department began deploying Narcan in May 2014.

The incident occurred Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of 4th and York Streets when Officer Michael Treadway discovered an unresponsive man experiencing a heroin overdose. The officer administered Narcan and the victim became responsive and started to recover before being transported to Cooper University Hospital.

This year in Camden, 195 drug overdoses were recorded, including 21 that proved to be fatal.

Of the 200 individuals saved by Camden officers using Narcan, 130 lived outside the city.

Narcan is a medication that can block the effects of opioids.
