Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Bennie Logan is arguably the best run defender on the team, and he will be out this Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, who run the ball more than any team in the NFL.
"It's huge, it's big, any time you lose a great player like Bennie for a couple of weeks, but I've always had the 'next man up' mentality and that's where we're at," said Doug Pederson.
Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott leads the NFL with 703 rushing yards in six games. As a team, the Cowboys lead the NFL in a whole slew of rushing offense stats, as we noted in our five matchups to watch:
2016 Cowboys run game | Stat | NFL Rank |
Rush attempts per game | 33.7 | 1 |
Rush yards per game | 161.2 | 1 |
Yards per rush attempt | 4.8 | 5 |
Rushing touchdowns | 11 | 1 |
% of rushes resulting in first down | 29.2 | 1 |
Rushing first downs | 59 | 1 |
Rushes of 20+ yards | 8 | 2 |
Like he did a week ago against the Minnesota Vikings, Beau Allen will start in Logan's place. Pederson was asked how Logan played last Sunday.
"Beau played good," he said. "He's a guy that gives you great effort every time he's in there. Obviously the fumble recovery was big for us there. Beau is consistent, he's solid, and we're fortunate to have him as one of our tackles."
Behind Allen, the Eagles have Destiny Vaeao and recently acquired Taylor Hart at defensive tackle.
