Wendy's manager pistol-whipped during botched robbery in Northeast Philly, police say

The manager of a Wendy's restaurant in Northeast Philadelphia was pistol-whipped during an attempted robbery early Wednesday morning, police said. 

The incident occurred at 2 a.m. as employees were preparing to leave the fast food restaurant at 901 Cottman Ave. in Burholme, FOX 29 reported. As the manager was walking to her car, she was approached by a man who had been hiding in the bushes and placed into a headlock, police said. 

After pistol-whipping the manager and threatening to shoot her, the man forced her back into the Wendy's, where four other employees had been waiting, police said. The man them into the back of the restaurant and demanded money. 

The man fled on foot after discovering the cash registers were empty and that the employees were unable to open the safe where the money had been deposited, police said. 

The manager was treated for minor injuries that occurred during the attempted robbery, police said. No other injuries were reported.

The suspect had not been identified by authorities as of Wednesday morning. Police said the incident was caught on surveillance video.
