As mindbodygreen.com says, "In the past, if someone said they were 'sober,' it usually meant they were a recovering alcoholic. But over the past few years, a shift has started to occur. We've seen Americans put more focus on health, and the next frontier is our drinking habits."
Restaurants are also playing a part by crafting signature non-alcoholic blends with fresh fruit, herbs and house-steeped syrups, including Philadelphia's Morimoto Restaurant and Vernick Food & Drink.
Vernick’s chef and owner said in a 2012 interview, “Our house-made sodas and mocktails are approached with the same thoughtfulness that we put into the preparation of our cocktails, they’re made-to-order using only the freshest ingredients. It’s a great option for guests who may not opt for an alcohol based cocktail, but who still would like a refreshing beverage beyond the typical offerings.”
