Weaver's Way farmstand starts season with volunteer day

Weaver's Way Co-op, the member-owned grocery store in West Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill, runs two produce farms in Northwest Philadelphia. One of them, Henry Got Crops, is located in Roxborough and is a collaboration between Weaver's Way, W.B. Saul Agricultural High School and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. 

In addition to serving as a comprehensive program for Saul High School, where students learn every aspect of the farming industry, Henry Got Crops also hosts Weaver's Way's summer farmstand. They'll open for the season with a special day of volunteering and fun on Friday, May 8.

Volunteers are welcome to join the farmers at 11 a.m. to clean up the farm for the season by weeding and planting. The market will also open at 11 a.m., with Weaver's Way produce available as well as local products like Swiss Villa eggs and Seven Stars Yogurt. 

Then, from 3-6 p.m., local vendors will offer samples to the public, games will be played and Weaver's Way chefs will grill up sausages from Stryker Farm in the kitchen. Philly Bread, Soom Foods Tahini & Dips, Jubilee Hill Tulsi Tea, Kitchen Garden Series and Weckerly's Ice Cream will all be there.

The farmstand's regular hours, through October, are Tuesdays 2-7 p.m. and Fridays 2-6 p.m. They also run monthly Saturday volunteer days, details of which are available on their events calendar.
