Weather history: The last tornado to hit Philly

Residents across the Delaware Valley were given reason to anxiously keep an eye on the skies Monday evening when the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the region.

None touched down in the Philadelphia region, which means the tornado that touched down four years ago remains the last one to occur in Philadelphia County. On May 18, 2011, an EF0 tornado touched down in Northeast Philly for only a few seconds, marking the first to do so since 1999.

While EF0 tornados are the weakest on the Fujita Tornado Intensity Scale, 6ABC reported that several businesses and residences were damaged and had their roofs torn off from the 100-foot-wide twister that tore through 300 feet of the city and reached wind speeds of 75 m.p.h.

Two people were injured by the falling debris, and CBS Philadelphia footage shows the aftermath of the tornado.

Luckily, Philly dodged the bullet this time.
