Well-traveled Philadelphia rapper Gillie Da Kid finally got his elusive career boost late last year with the release of "Welcome to Gilladelphia," the culmination of years spent bouncing around labels nationwide without finding commercial success.
As it turned out, the recipe for Gillie's breakout was a homecoming that found him launching Figga Gang Entertainment/Relumae Records with his local crew Major Figgas, a partnership founded with Abliva in the Erie Avenue section of North Philadelphia.
In a video posted on YouTube this weekend, Gillie Da Kid crosses paths with another Philadelphia hip-hop legend, iron-pumping actor Will Smith. (Note: Video contains explicit language).
Smith has appeared in Philadelphia several times in recent months, including a cameo at the 2016 Roots Picnic with daughter Willow and a dinner visit with the Sixers. He also passed through his West Philly hometown for a cheesesteak and later spoke out about the "collective insanity" driving support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Based on the video alone, it's not clear what brought Smith to Philly to meet with Gillie, but his star power has garnered some pretty significant traction on YouTube.
Regardless, this is much better news than the Philly Cheesesteak War between Meek Mill and The Game, which wound up getting Beanie Sigal punched before a concert at the Wells Fargo Center.
