For nearly 30 years, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have been among the most enduring and genuinely loveable Hollywood couples.

But to hear Bacon talk about it, charming Sedgwick into his arms was quite the struggle even from an early age.

In a Facebook Live interview with Britain's Radio X, the Philadelphia native and "I Love Dick" star opened up about the trials and tribulations of his courtship with Sedgwick, admitting he had to put in some serious work to woo her (segment starts at 9:40 mark).

The pair first met after Bacon appeared in an off-Broadway performance when Sedgwick was just 12 years old. Sedgwick's mother had been encouraging her daughter, an aspiring actress, to see Bacon in person and study his talent. At a deli between performances, Sedgwick told Bacon, who was seven years her senior, that she thought he was good. He replied, "Thank you, sweetie."

What ensued were a series of encounters over the years, including an "embarrassing" aerobics class, in which a smitten Bacon could not seem to get her to warm to him. The pair ended up eventually doing a filmed television play, setting the stage for an early dinner date. Bacon was "out of practice" at dating and resorted to various schemes he agreed were "not creepy at all."

"That dinner was ... I didn't close the deal," Bacon said. "I mean, there was a lot more knocking on that door. She was not going for it, uh, for what to me felt like an eternity ... She really didn't dig me."

Maybe Bacon is being modest here, but the rest is history and the couple are now working on a family-made film production, appropriately called "Story of a Girl," with their two children.

The lesson to bachelors? Falling hard and failing hard are not mutually exclusive.
