A video that surfaced online shows what happened in the hallways of Abraham Lincoln High School in Northeast Philly when a fight broke out between a teacher and a student around 9 a.m. Monday.
Philadelphia police are investigating the incident where the teacher, whose name has not yet been revealed, returns punches at a teenager who also was punching and kicking him.
The student allegedly was late to class, according to 6ABC. The teacher attempted to call security for help and when backup didn't come fast enough, the teacher went to a classroom next door when he allegedly was attacked in the hallway where the video was recorded.
The student has been charged with assault, according to the news station.
Lee Whack, a spokesperson for the School District of Philadelphia, on Wednesday said he couldn't discuss the details of what actions might be taken against the teacher, if any.
"We take the safety of our students and our teachers very seriously," he said in a statement. "Violence of any kind in our schools is unacceptable, and will not be tolerated. We are working in cooperation with the Philadelphia Police Department and we are conducting our own investigation to gather all of the facts regarding this incident.”
Below are screen captures taken from the video. The teacher and student's faces have been blurred.
