Philadelphia police are seeking help from the public to identify the individual who stabbed a cab driver several times during an assault in West Philly earlier this week.
According to police, who shared a video of the vicious attack, the incident occurred at about 12:44 p.m. Sunday after the 35-year-old cab driver with All Threes Taxi company picked up a man, who went by the name of "James," along the 800 block of North Markoe Street.
The passenger — described by police as about 20 years old with a beard and a short, thin build and wearing a green hooded sweatshirt and light-colored pants — directed the driver to take him to the 5800 block of Race Street.
As the cab reached its destination, police said the unidentified male grabbed the cab driver by the neck from behind, produced a large knife and began to stab the driver in the back.
Video of the attack can be seen here (Warning, the video below is graphic):
In the video, the cabbie pulls the attacker's hood over his head, making the attacker unable to see and causing him to flee out the rear passenger-side door. The suspect exited the vehicle and was last seen fleeing on foot, headed north on North 58th Street from Race Street, police said.
The cab driver was transported to Presbyterian Trauma Center, where he was treated for several lacerations, law enforcement officials said.
