The city is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person allegedly responsible for this crime.
The victim, 47-year-old William Vaughn of the Kingsessing section, had been waiting for a SEPTA bus at about 6:42 a.m. at Broad and Arch streets when he was stabbed in the chest, police said. He died later from his injuries.
According to police, the alleged attacker is a black man in his 40s who is possibly homeless. He is between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, and he was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jacket and tan pants as he ran north on Broad Street toward Race Street.
The suspect was carrying a royal blue backpack and yellow supermarket-type plastic bag.
