Former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson regretfully announced that she will have to cancel six dates on her "Piece by Piece" tour, including a show in Camden, after doctors told her that a vocal strain required rest in order to heal.
Clarkson, 33, became a sensation after winning the first season of American Idol in 2002. Since then, the Grammy winner has released 7 studio albums and has embraced philanthropic causes including "March of Dimes" and charity work with UNICEF, "Save the Children," "Do Something," and "STOMP Out Bullying."
On Twitter, Clarkson shared the disappointing news with her fans, but vowed to get back on the road as soon as possible.
This is not the first time Clarkson has had to cut dates to keep her voice healthy. After giving birth to her first daughter, River Rose, in 2014, Clarkson feared that her voice was permanently damaged and that her singing career was over, ETOnline reports.
"Afterwards was the part where I literally had a moment where I cried and drank wine all day," she admitted. "I was like, 'Oh, God, I'm not going to be a singer anymore!' I was bawling to my husband and like, completely hammered, just going, 'Oh my God, it's over, I don't know what I'm going to do. I guess I could do more charity work.' Like, I didn't know what I was going to do."
Clarkson was scheduled to play the Susquehanna Banks Center on Sunday, September 20. According to the tour, all fans will be fully refunded at the point of purchase.
Despite the hiatus, the "Piece by Piece" tour, which began in July, continues into November and Clarkson expects to finish out the remaining dates on the tour.
