To very little surprise, Villanova was the first name called when the brackets were released on Selection Sunday. The Wildcats, who come into the NCAA Tournament at 31-3, were announced as the No. 1 overall seed a night after winning the Big East Championship.
The Wildcats will play the winner of Mount St. Mary's and New Orleans on Thursday in Buffalo, New York. With a win in that game, Villanova would face the winner of Wisconsin and Virginia Tech.
The No. 2 seed in the East Region is the ACC champion Duke Blue Devils, which means that the last two national champions could meet at Madison Square Garden in the East Regional Final.
