WASHINGTON – Vince Velasquez is headed to the disabled list, which shouldn’t be too surprising since his most recent start was shut down after throwing just two pitches on Wednesday afternoon.
The Phillies announced on Friday that Velasquez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right biceps strain. Right-handed reliever Luis Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take the vacant spot on the 25-man roster.
The Phils will obviously have to make another roster move when Velasquez’s spot in the rotation comes up next week against the Toronto Blue Jays. It’s uncertain just how long Velasquez will be sidelined for but we’ll probably know more when the team reports to Nationals Park this afternoon prior to their game against Washington.
