A man and woman died in a house fire early Thursday morning on the 400 block of Daly Street in South Philadelphia.
The blaze broke out just before 1:30 a.m. in the first floor of the two-story rowhome near Wolf and 4th streets, trapping and killing the couple who were the only two people inside and sending an officer who attempted to save them to the hospital, according to NBC 10.
The officer was the first to arrive on the scene and suffered non life-threatening burns. He was taken to Temple Hospital.
The identities of the victims and the officer injured in the deadly blaze have not yet been released.
Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer told NBC 10 there were no smoke detectors in the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but does not seem suspicious.
