Despite an outpouring of opposition, the Senate voted to confirm Betsy DeVos as education secretary on Tuesday after a historic tiebreaking vote by Vice President Mike Pence.
As expected, DeVos' opponents quickly turned to social media to share their frustration, heartbreak and, in some cases, their next steps.
Every Republican senator who isn't @lisamurkowski or @SenatorCollins should go home to their state, apologize to a teacher, and then resign.

This is your Congress, America. It's run by feckless cowards who reward any incompetent ideologues who can buy their way in. #RememberIn2018

Senate just confirmed Betsy DeVos for @usedgov. Her only relevant experience – giving millions to GOP.

Pennsylvanians also directed their anger at U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, who voted to approve DeVos' nomination despite facing harsh criticism, including over the fact that DeVos had donated $60,500 to his campaign funds.
.@SenToomey You sold out America's future for $55k. We won't forget. Your term won't last 6yrs. #BoughtandSold #RealPA #TuesdayswithToomey

I doubt she knows, but maybe our new Sec of Ed Betsy Devos can school @SenToomey on where Philly is because he never seems to come here.

Pat Toomey just told me he "never" had second thoughts about supporting DeVos despite the furious pressure campaign from the left
