NFL free agency is now officially official, and it comes as no surprise that Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles are very active. Specifically, the Eagles have upgraded the receiver position for second-year quarterback Carson Wentz. The Eagles first signed deep threat Torrey Smith, but as it turned out, that signing only set the stage for a much bigger move.
Wentz now has a true No. 1 receiver in (now) former Chicago Bear Alshon Jeffery. In 63 career games, the 27-year-old Jeffery has 304 catches, 4,549 yards, and 26 touchdowns.
Needless to say, Eagles fans are generally a pretty happy bunch at the team's new acquisition. Here is how Birds fans and others in the NFL Twittersphere initially reacted to ESPN reporting that Jeffery is coming to Philly on a one-year deal:
WR Alshon Jeffery just called me directly and said it is a "done deal" that he will go to the #Eagles

And then...
Carson to Alshon is football porn.

Eagles have gone from poor to very good at WR. https://t.co/I1k1cEmThv

One year deal for Jeffrey makes sense. See what he can do. I didn’t think he’d get a big deal

So Alshon basically back on another franchise tag. https://t.co/ww1wwmTgXr

Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith and Jordan Matthews are Carson Wentz's top three WRs for next year. What a time to be alive.

The early winner of free agency: Carson Wentz. Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith both to the Eagles.

Really loving the Eagles' new wide receiver depth chart: 1) Paul Turner 2.) Alshon Jeffrey 3) Torrey Smith 4) Jordan Matthews 5) Agholor

Alshon Jeffery turned down a multi-year deal with more security from Vikings, but he is betting himself long term with the Eagles and Wentz

Alshon ! #FlyEaglesFly

As for Jeffery signing? I haven't been coy about what I've thought of Jeffery. Best free-agent WR in years, and gives Eagles legit No. 1

Makes sense to both sides. Now he gets to prove he can stay clean EAGLESPR: The Eagles have agreed to a 1-yr contract with Alshon Jeffery.

Eagles heavily explored adding Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffrey before the trade deadline. Now have both on the roster for 2017

Eagles announce they've signed Alshon Jeffrey to a one year deal. Smart for both sides. If he stays healthy can get bigger $$ in 18

Dear Philly fans,

Enjoy Alshon, he's really good.
PS
Become well versed in hamstring injuries
1 year deal makes sense for Eagles/Alshon. He can prove he's worth 15-20 million if he stays healthy, off the PEDs.

So the Eagles got a top flight wide receiver with some baggage on a one-year deal and motivation to play it into long-term? WELL DONE!

Howie this year: "Signing young, for the future"
**1 yr deals to vets***
Random fact: Nelson Agholor wears No. 17 because of respect/friendship he has for/with Alshon Jeffery.
