Musical chairs at the White House hit another ugly note Monday with the sudden departure of communications director Anthony Scaramucci, the blustery Long Islander who lasted just 11 days in Washington after he was hand-picked by President Trump to stop a pattern of internal leaks.
Scaramucci, who came to the White House from Wall Street, made waves last week with an obscene tirade he let fly during a telephone interview with The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza. The prime target of his animosity, former chief of staff Reince Priebus, resigned last Thursday in what initially seemed to be a vindication of those criticisms.
But Priebus's replacement, former Homeland Security secretary John F. Kelly, evidently questioned Scaramucci's discipline and credibility, a White House official told CNN on Monday afternoon. White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders added that Trump believed Scaramucci's comments were "inappropriate for a person in that position."
As chaos consumes the West Wing, many on Twitter took Scaramucci's short-lived tenure as an opportunity to relish the rise and fall of The Mooch, who managed to lose his job and his marriage within a week.
