RELATED STORY: Grand Jury urges charges against Pennsylvania attorney general
In a statement published by The Morning Call, Kane's attorney Lanny J. Davis claimed his client had done nothing wrong or illegal. Davis also said that the leak to the Inquirer could represent a violation of the Grand Jury Secrecy Act, saying "I wonder why the supervising judge who appointed the special prosecutor to investigate the Attorney General hasn't initiated a grand jury investigation of this leak or any of the other previous leaks from this same Grand Jury process."
Joel Mathis of Philadelphia Magazine points out that if Kane is charged, she'd be the second Attorney General in 20 years to face criminal charges. Also, an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, posted shortly after the Inquirer report, details Kane's rise to political prominence along with her recent legal troubles.
The decision to press charges now falls on Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman, who will review the panel's findings.
