White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has resigned from his position within President Donald Trump's administration, according to sources speaking to the Associated Press.
It's been a long road for Spicer, who had received much criticism for his role. Though, he reportedly had been due to take on a new job overseeing the entire White House communications operation earlier this summer.
The resignation reportedly is connected to the appointment of a new White House communications director, New York financier and Trump ally Anthony Scaramucci, though the White House has not yet made an official announcement.
Spicer's time leading the White House press briefings was, well, brief and frequently dominated by his own mistakes and talks of Trump being dissatisfied with Spicer's job performance. And then there was Melissa McCarthy's spot-on impression of Spicer on "Saturday Night Live" making its rounds across the internet in the past few months.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders soon took over most of the briefings, which more and more frequently were done without the news network's cameras rolling, as per rules set by the White House.
Social media users were not hesitant to relive Spicer's countless gaffes and and the memes he inspired as reports of his resignation surfaced Friday.
There were jokes concerning Russian ties to Trump's campaign.
And talks of other potential job openings and what he'll do in his spare time.
But Twitter also brought up Melissa McCarthy, because of course.
There were some more poetic tributes, too.
And talks of the GOP plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
Jabs at crowd sizes, how the news will be reported and how Spicer will announce the resignation himself were thrown into the mix.
Maybe it'll be from the bushes?
