If you've ever wanted to test out one of Philly's premiere dance or dance-fitness classes, here's your chance. The annual Philadelphia Dance Day, a Saturday of free workshops, classes and performances, is taking center stage July 25.
This non-profit festival of dance brings the city together to celebrate creativity, movement and exercise. Studios like Headlong, Major Moment, Koresh, Studio 1831 and Step By Step Dance Expressions plus locations like the Christian Street YMCA and CEG Performing Arts Academy will host dozens of classes in one day.
Philly Dance Fitness, Ballroom Bliss, Drexel's women's Bhangra team Allarh Mast Jawani and more will lead classes in genres like Indonesian dance, striptease, tap, African jazz, bellydancing, hip-hop and Zumba. Each class is free and there is no need to register; you just show up and get moving. The Ethical Society of Philadelphia will also offer a series of evening events for a $5 one-time entrance fee.
Be sure to check the Dance Day website for information on what to wear and what to bring.
