A transgender woman was beaten and fatally shot in North Philadelphia early Tuesday morning, according to reports.
According to 6 ABC, the incident happened at 13th and Wingohocking streets where 22-year-old Kiesha Jenkins was dropped off around 2:30 a.m.
Police say Jenkins was beaten shortly after getting out of the car by five or six unidentified men. One suspect eventually pulled out a gun and shot her twice while she was on the ground.
She was taken to Einstein Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
According to the Philadelphia Gay News, police say it appeared that Jenkins was targeted, but it was not clear for what reason.
She reportedly was a North Philadelphia native who went to West Philadelphia High School and Temple University.
Police are still investigating the incident.
