Beauty-editor-turned-health-coach Jolene Hart believes that beauty is built through smart nutrition choices.
Her company, Beauty Is Wellness, aims to educate women about the connection between a healthy lifestyle and beauty.
Hart's book, Eat Pretty, provides a seasonal guide to "looking and feeling your best all year."
Spring is the season to eat raw, fresh-from-the-farmers-market veggies and fruit. Snacking on these just-harvested foods puts you one step closer to radiant skin, not to mention enough energy to tackle all of your spring chores!
Here are her top five spring beauty foods:
1. Asparagus
Rich in folic acid, asparagus can protect against heart disease and birth defects and even ease depression, Hart says.
2. Strawberries
Full of vitamin C, strawberries stimulate collagen production. Just one cup provides 149 percent of your vitamin C for the day.
3. Cauliflower
Cauliflower is chock full of fiber and nutrients, including glutathione and sulforaphane, which can help prevent aging, dementia and more.
4. Beets
Beet juice is known for its "internal cleansing benefits." The sweet vegetables are also high in folic acid and glutathione.
5. Spinach
A good source of iron, spinach helps promote rosy skin and oxygenated blood. The leafy green's high amount of vitamin A is also helpful for acne-sufferers.
Hart says these five in-season foods will have you "on your way to radiance that matches the springtime blooms."
